“Take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way”
In which year group did you start at Rokeby?
Reception
Which senior school are you currently attending?
King’s College School
What do you miss about Rokeby?
I really miss the school environment. The small year groups meant that everyone got close, so after nine years, we felt like an extended family.
Best things about Upper School
Having lots of responsibility was always really fun. The School Captain scheme gave everyone a job. There is so much to get involved with – School Council, the Community Council, Drama and Art etc…
Best memory/favourite moment
I loved doing the school plays – being involved was always the highlight of my year. In my final Rokeby play, Treasure Island, Mr Peck got up on stage at the end of the performance to say he’d just found out I’d been offered a drama scholarship to Kings. I couldn’t believe it, as I’d got an art scholarship a few weeks earlier.
Best trip
The Swanage camping trip after the Common Entrance exams. It was so much fun – a real belly-laughs trip, although it was bittersweet as we were about to leave Rokeby.
Biggest achievement
I wrote a poem called The Corridor in Year 8 as part of my Rokeby Poet Laureate application. A teacher had previously tipped me off about the Betjeman Poetry Prize – a national poetry competition for young people. I entered with The Corridor and I won! Going to the prize-giving ceremony with my English teacher Miss Mason was a really special moment. Winning the prize meant I was the Poet Laureate of St Pancras station as well as Rokeby’s Poet Laureate!
One piece of advice to younger boys
Take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way.
Comment from parent
Fin loved his time at Rokeby but he particularly thrived in the top two years. The school is such a fantastic community that offers so many opportunities to try new things, discover talents, and have fun.
