Languages at Rokeby focus on enabling boys to express themselves with confidence and competence.
Our Reception boys are introduced to French via weekly reading lessons. Years 1 and 2 are taught the basics of French in a weekly 20-minute session. They then continue learning the language for the rest of their time at Rokeby. To combine oral fluency with grammatical accuracy, equal emphasis is given to the four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
We take our boys to visit France in Year 6 (Provence or the Loire Valley) and Year 7 (French battlefields, Normandy or Paris) so they can communicate with native French speakers to develop their skills and confidence further.
