Languages at Rokeby focus on enabling boys to express themselves with confidence and competence.
Boys learn French from Reception by having weekly French story telling lessons until Year 2 and they then continue learning the language for the rest of the time they are at Rokeby. Equal emphasis is given to the four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) so that oral fluency is combined with grammatical accuracy.
We take our boys to visit France in Year 6 (Provence or the Loire Valley) and in Year 7 (French battlefields, Normandy or Paris) so they can communicate with native French speakers, further developing their skills and confidence.
