Art & Design Technology
Rokeby Art is brought to life in our excellent facilities to enable a variety of processes and techniques to be covered: printmaking, ceramic work, photography, mixed media and textiles are taught alongside the more traditional drawing and painting skills.
Critical and contextual studies are integrated within a strong practical framework. Above all, boys should leave Rokeby with confidence in their own personal response and a growing understanding of different art concepts.
Pupils are encouraged to attend art clubs and nurture a real love of the subject. Special arrangements are made to help those who wish to sit an Art Scholarship for a senior school, and visits to art galleries are arranged for several year groups. The subject is taught through thematic enquiry and where appropriate, topics link to other subject areas.
Design Technology gives boys the opportunity to design and to engage in creative and practical problem solving. The projects are exciting and build on developing skills and include all aspects of design, working with materials, and food technology. Pupils are encouraged to solve problems creatively, to be technologically literate and to develop awareness of the physical environment.
